You’ve probably heard of Malta before, but likely not too much. It’s one of those locations that a lot of people know but not too many have been to. And that’s a primary reason why Malta is always listed amongst the hidden gems of Europe with tourists praising each and every aspect, ranging from the rich history, all the way to picturesque vistas and delicious food. So, why do so many tourists love Malta?
Decent prices
When you compare the price level of Malta with tourist hotspots in close proximity like the French Riviera, Santorini and the Amalfi Coast, Malta definitely stands out as the more reasonably priced option. Things here are rarely overpriced and price levels are similar to some of the more moderate ones, found in the Continental parts of the European Union. This means that more people can come and enjoy all of the fine things that the island has to offer without breaking the bank.
It’s easy to get around
Malta covers the land area, roughly the same size as the German metropolis Munich with its suburbs. So, it’s big, but not too big. This comprehensive scale ensures that every visitor won’t struggle with the simple task of just moving around the island.
You can walk or ride a bike for exploration in close proximity. Public buses will take you to most tourist destinations while renting a car and/or scooter remain popular amongst tourists. However, the service that more and more people seem to be selecting is actually carpooling. It’s cheaper than conventional taxis and more transparent.
Maltese carpooling allows for smooth and efficient transition between points A and B.
Culturally, there’s nothing that compares
If you were to analyze the history and demographics of the Maltese islands, you wouldn’t be able to find anything similar anywhere in the world. The locals have their own unique language that’s a blend of Italian, old Latin and Arabic.
Most people are multi-lingual, speaking English and Maltese (around 85% of the population know both), Italian (around 67%) and French (<20%). Cuisine, culture and architecture are relatable to somethings you may find elsewhere, but also very unique in their own ways!
Perfect for a diving holiday
Due to the fact that it’s completely surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, it should come as no surprise knowing that people love Malta because it’s a wonderful spot for marine exploration. Both snorkeling and deep diving are very popular tourist attractions where clear sea waters offer up to 20 meters of vision below the surface.
